Tournament Information

Tournament Venue

The Kofukan International Cup 2026 tournament will be held at Ballerup Super Arena, which is a multiarena located in Ballerup city.

Throughout the year this arena hosts some of the largest sport and cultural events in Denmark, including the official Danish Karate Championships in 2025, the World Championships in Track Cycling and Badminton, several concerts with international artists and various exhibitions.

Categories

These are the tournament categories as discussed and agreed at the 2025 Kofukan International meeting.

As agreed at the meeting in 2010, the minimum number normally required to hold a contest in any individual division is 4. If competitor numbers are less than 4 the division will be combined with the division above (heigher weight).

Senior & Junior Categories

Please note that competitors above 18 years can be entered into “Elite” OR “Kyu Grade” categories, not both.

Kata:

  • will be divided by grade where possible


Individual Kumite:

  • Each age group will be divided by height where possible (small, medium, tall)
  • Each group will be divided by grade where possible

Participation

Please observe the following criteria and restrictions regardind tournament participation.

Participant Limits

Senior (>18 years)

  • Individual Kata and Kumite categories are limited to 7 male and 7 female competitors per country.
  • Team Kumite categories are limited to 1 male and 1 female team per country, plus 2 mixed teams per country.
  • Senior Team Kata is for age 16 +, as agreed at the 2016 Pre-tournament meeting.
  • A maximum of 2 mixed teams per country will be allowed (mixed by age and sex as desired).
  • There will be no Junior Team Kata.

Junior (16/17 years)

  • Entries are unlimited to Individual Kata and Kumite categories as well as Team Kumite events.

Under 16 years

  • Entries are unlimited to Individual Kata and Kumite categories as well as the Team Kata event.
  • Minimum grade in Kumite – Yellow belt.

Entry Criteria

Age

  • Minimum age for participating is 10 years old in kumite, and 7 in kata.
  • Age on April 18 2026 (the first day of the competition) decides which age category the competitor should enter.
  • Age categories in Kumite may be divided into groups by height and / or weight.
  • This means that all entries must be made showing height in centimetres and weight in kilos. Then if necessary the groups will be split as fairly as possible.
  • The Organizer will be dividing competitors by those criteria into the right category and will be checking the authenticity of data at the height measurement session on Friday April 17. and on the day of contest.
